Originally from North Yorkshire, Gareth read Philosophy, Politics and Economics at the University of Oxford as a mature student - having left school at 16 he worked for a number of years in roles such as the accounts office of a vehicle repair company and on the Helpdesk of HSBC's mortgage processing centre. Returning to education, he studied for his A-levels at an FE College whilst working 32 hours a week at Tesco.
Following graduation from Oxford, he subsequently worked for the University as a member of the first ever central student recruitment team. He joined the executive search firm Perrett Laver in 2010 as a member of their Global Higher Education practice. As one of the firm’s Consultant team, Gareth led a succession of senior executive level and board appointments for over 50 HEIs globally. In 2012, he helped to establish the firm’s first international office in Sydney. After leaving Perrett Laver, Gareth headed to Imperial College London Business School as part of their Executive Education team, focusing on Client Relationships and Business Development. Returning to the world of academic search in 2015, he led the Global Higher Education Practice at Society for nearly seven years growing the global footprint of the business across all types of HEIs.
Gareth is a collaborative and diligent executive search professional, with significant experience working across a wide range of HEIs globally to deliver end-to-end recruitment projects. Successful projects range from Vice-Chancellors to Assistant Professors, Chief Operating Officers to Admissions Managers. His experience covers the full gamut of HEI activity and has delivered outstanding results on a long-term, partnership basis with a significant number of institutions globally.
